Whitehorse

A multi-day episode of very cold wind chills is expected.

What: Wind chill values near minus 45.

When: Now to Wednesday midday.

Where: Whitehorse, Teslin, Watson Lake and Cassiar Mountains.

Remarks: An Arctic ridge of high pressure is bringing very cold conditions to southern Yukon. Light winds combined with frigid temperatures will produce extreme windchill values near minus 45.

Some moderation of temperatures is expected on Wednesday.

Cold Warning in effect for:

South Klondike Highway - Carcross to White Pass

A prolonged period of very cold wind chills is expected.

What: Wind chill values near minus 45.

When: Tonight through early next week.

Where: South Klondike Highway and Haines Road.

Remarks: An Arctic ridge of high pressure will bring very cold conditions to southern Yukon. Strong winds combined with frigid temperatures will give extreme windchill values.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

Keep emergency supplies in your vehicle such as extra blankets and jumper cables.

South Klondike Highway - Carcross to White Pass

A multi-day episode of gusty outflow winds giving occasional poor visibility in blowing snow.

Where: South Klondike Highway and Haines Road.

When: Now through Tuesday.

Additional Information:
Strong outflow winds will persist over the next several days as arctic air from the Yukon makes its way out onto the coast.

Travel will likely be hazardous due to near-zero visibility.

Blowing snow advisories are issued when widespread poor visibility in blowing snow is expected.
